Bali Police Advise Villa Guests to Avoid Wearing Flashy Jewelry Amid Theft Warnings

Following recent motorcycle snatchings targeting tourists in Kuta and Sanur, Bali police urge villa guests and visitors to avoid wearing expensive jewelry and take safety precautions, especially when walking in popular tourist areas after dark.

Denpasar, Bali – November 7, 2026: Bali police have issued a safety advisory for tourists and villa guests following a series of motorcycle snatch thefts targeting foreign visitors in popular areas such as Kuta and Sanur. The warning comes after six suspects were arrested in connection with multiple robberies where victims lost valuable jewelry, cash, and other belongings.

Recent Theft Incidents in Tourist Areas

Deputy Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner I Ketut Widiarta held a press conference detailing the arrests of four adults and two teenagers linked to separate thefts in Kuta. The victims, hailing from countries including India, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, and Russia, reported losses totaling approximately Rp291.3 million. The stolen items included necklaces valued between Rp28 million and Rp90 million, as well as handbags containing cash and valuables.

Most incidents occurred at night, although some took place during the day when thieves spotted opportunities. The modus operandi typically involved suspects on motorcycles approaching pedestrians, grabbing jewelry or bags, and quickly fleeing the scene.

Separate Incident in Sanur

In a related case, a 22-year-old man was arrested after attempting to snatch a bag from an Italian woman cycling in Sanur on November 5. The woman fell and sustained injuries but managed to keep her belongings. The suspect reportedly admitted to involvement in multiple snatch attempts targeting foreign tourists in the area since September.

Safety Tips for Villa Guests and Visitors

Police strongly advise tourists staying in Bali villas or visiting tourist hotspots to take extra precautions to avoid becoming victims of theft:

  • Avoid wearing expensive or flashy jewelry when walking around, especially in quieter areas or after dark.
  • Keep handbags and valuables close to your body, preferably on the side away from passing traffic to reduce the risk of snatching.
  • Use official and trusted transportation services rather than accepting unsolicited rides from strangers.
  • Stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately by calling the police emergency number 110 or visiting the nearest police station.

Ongoing Police Efforts

Authorities continue to patrol and investigate in areas frequented by tourists to enhance safety and prevent further incidents. While the suspects have been apprehended, legal proceedings are ongoing, and they have not yet been convicted.

For those planning to stay in Bali villas or exploring the island, staying informed and cautious can help ensure a safe and enjoyable visit.
